Arrhythmia Drug Therapy
Arrhythmias are abnormal heart rhythms. They may cause the heart to beat faster or slower than normal, making the heart less effective in pumping blood through the body. Some common cardiac arrhythmias are Bradycardia, Supraventricular Tachycardia, Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Fibrillation and Ventricular Tachycardia.
To treat your arrhythmia your doctor may use one of or a combination of a variety of arrhythmia medications. There are different categories of drugs used for arrhythmia treatment including antiarrhythmics, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, digoxin, adenosine and anticoagulants. These drugs thin the blood and help prevent clots from forming in the blood vessels. |
